Why Do Yoga?

About Julie Means

I have been practicing yoga since I was a teenager. I began by myself, learning from a book, as there were few yoga classes in rural upstate New York then. Although the postures I studied were few and progression in the practice limited to holding the same postures for longer and longer times, I loved the peaceful deepening experiences I was having, and my sense of inner calm and knowing strengthened as my body became more open.

In 1991, I committed myself to yoga as a lifelong practice. It is the thread that weaves my life together, the place where I find meaning, peace, strength, awakening and serenity. In 2002, I became certified to teach Kripalu Yoga, and began teaching in Indiana, PA.

In 2005, I met Kali Ray, world-renowned yoga master and founder of TriYoga. With its emphasis on breath and flow and systematic awakening, I felt that TriYoga was the practice that all of my years of personal study had been leading me toward. I now teach only TriYoga, as I believe it is a brilliant and completely safe system of yoga. It is strengthening, opening and balancing, and transformational on so many levels - physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. I am so grateful to be able to teach TriYoga, and to share with my students its healing and transformation!
